Music classes at Reedurban and T.C. Knapp started the year with an extra dose of excitement.  Thanks to funding by the respective parent organizations, the students walked in to see classroom guitars hanging on the music room wall.  “Whoa!”   “Awesome!”  “Are WE going to play THOSE?“ was heard from students all week long as they came to music for the first time.  Mrs. Davis plans to incorporate guitars into the music curriculum for fourth and fifth grade.  “We will be developing reading skills, listening skills, eye/hand coordination, perseverance, memory skills and study skills as well as meeting all of the music standards” said Mrs. Davis.  “We’ll be working hard and having fun too.  I’m hoping some of those guitars in closets and under beds at home will come out and get the whole family involved.  Keep checking this music website for guitar tips and help.”   Mrs. Davis has been working on her own guitar skills as well.  She attended the nationally recognized “Teaching Guitar” intensive week-long course offered by Duquesne University and has been practicing, developing a guitar curriculum suited for Perry music classes and shopping for guitars for over a year.  “We owe our parents a great big thank you for investing in the instruments and supporting our music program so whole-heartedly.  With their support we were able to invest in 14 kid-sized guitars at each school which will allow the students to work in pairs on the instruments,” said Mrs. Davis.  As a result, Reedurban and T.C. Knapp have 14 guitars hanging on the wall….”whoa!”
